We are pleased to introduce an improvement to role and access management in RamBase. A new and improved Roles (ROL) application is now available and replaces the previous ROLE application. You will automatically be redirected when accessing the old solution, ensuring a seamless transition with no disruption to your daily work.
A more flexible approach to roles
One of the key improvements is the introduction of Role templates (ROT). What was previously known as system defined roles (or standard roles) are now available as templates. This provides a more flexible and maintainable way to work with roles.
Instead of using predefined roles, you can now:
Create roles from scratch, or
Create roles based on templates tailored to your needs
Flexibility with full control
When creating roles from templates, you can choose how closely they should follow the original template. You may enable automatic updates, which ensures that improvements to the template are applied to your roles. However, in contrast to the previous behaviour with system defined roles, this is now fully optional.
This means you can:
Keep roles aligned with templates, or
Customize roles independently to better fit your specific processes
We recommend reviewing and adapting roles where needed to ensure they reflect your organization’s actual usage and requirements.
More precise access control
We are also introducing improved flexibility in how access can be defined. Selected duties now support access control per organizational unit, allowing you to tailor access more precisely based on your structure.
For these duties, you can define access as:
Across all units
Limited to a user’s own units
Restricted to selected units
Please note that this capability is currently available for a limited number of duties and will be expanded further in upcoming releases.
What you need to do
For most users, no action is required.
Administrators are encouraged to:
Start using Role templates (ROT) where relevant
Review and adapt roles to match their organization's needs
Consider using organizational unit–based access where available
Continue to activate changes after updates to roles
This release is designed to give you greater flexibility, better control, and easier maintenance of roles, while minimizing impact on your daily operations.
Release date: Will be rolled out to customers gradually in the coming weeks. You will know when the Role (ROL) application is displayed instead of ROLE. System defined roles that you have not been using will not show in ROL but can be found as Role templates (ROT) if you would like to use them at a later point.
